Changing the Evolution Ignition to RCEXL |
| Your Evolution 26 GT Ignition is OK for the most part. It starts good and runs good.
BUT as you may have discovered, it requires a minimum of 7.2 volts and it's relatively
heavy. The factory ignition is very expensive to replace if it ever goes out or gets
damaged! I have an alternative... Install an RCEXL Ignition! The RCEXL Ignition is LIGHTER WEIGHT, and operates on 4.8 volts. It's not a difficult change and you will really like the results!
As you can see, the RCEXL is smaller and its much lighter!
The sensors will interchange (sort of). The RCEXL sensor is curved, but it will flatten out easily. It will bolt right on the engine.
Here is the difficult part! The original prophub has fixed timing AND it uses 2 magnets. The RCEXL only needs 1 magnet. The original magnets are NOT in the right location for the RCEXL! You will have to turn off the back part of the prophub on a lathe and make a new timing ring to slip on the turned hub, as depicted in the photo. This is really worth the trouble! Not only will you reduce the overall weight, but you can set your own timing. |
